Even fishing equipment can facilitate the movement of species when anglers travel between different water bodies without properly cleaning their gear. Rising temperatures allow organisms to survive in regions that were previously too cold for them, effectively expanding the potential range of many invasive species. Additionally, climate-related disturbances such as droughts, floods, and wildfires can weaken native ecosystems, making them more vulnerable to invasion. Scientists predict that these climate-driven changes will make biological invasions increasingly difficult to prevent or control in the coming decades.

The tourism sector can also be affected when invasive species degrade the aesthetic or recreational value of natural areas. Some estimates suggest that invasive species cost the global economy over one hundred billion dollars annually, though the true figure may be considerably higher when indirect costs are included.

Prevention remains the most cost-effective strategy for managing invasive species. Border inspection programmes aim to detect and intercept potentially harmful organisms before they enter a country. Quarantine regulations restrict the importation of certain plants, animals, and products from regions known to harbour dangerous pests or diseases. Public education campaigns encourage people to avoid releasing pets into the wild and to clean equipment when moving between natural areas. Despite these efforts, the sheer volume of international movement makes it impossible to eliminate all introduction pathways. Consequently, early detection and rapid response systems have become essential components of invasive species management, allowing authorities to address new invasions before they become firmly established.
